Apache Geronimo

The Apache Geronimo project intends to provide a world-class, certified J2EE? application server.

At ApacheCon (Nov 2003), it was announced that the Apache Software Foundation had obtained a J2EE licence under the non-profit Scholarship rules and would therefore have access to the J2EE Technology Compatibility Kit (TCK). This is the first step towards certification.

During the conference an update was given showing that substantial progress had been made in implementation, and during the closing session a demonstration was given of Geronimo running the Java PetStore. The first production release date was given as Aug 6th, 2004, although as this is an open source project "it will be ready when it is ready."
